Mercedes SS replica
This is a very interesting project for us and a chance to step back in time to the 1930’s era of traditional coachbuilding.
This car started off with a longer chassis, built from scratch, using modern Mercedes SL running gear. The chassis was then shortened from the 4-seater length to allow for this rather rakish 2-seat body design.
The design brief then changed from a drophead coupe design to a pretty fixed head style…
We have a lot more to do to finish the body, as you can see in this photo the roof is still at the ‘evolving’ stage! Note the brass radiator which is a faithful copy of the original design and will have the facility to wear different radiator mascots (the owner has a rare, Lalique mascot to go on when it is finished!)
Part of the design brief from the customer is that he wants it to be useable as an everyday car – it should in theory drive as well as an 80’s SL… We can’t wait to see the finished result…
